Vikings in Winter: Free Guided Tour

Get to know the Vikings: What did they really do during the winter?

The dark and cold months could be challenging, but they were also filled with special activities and traditions that kept Viking society going—and their spirits high.

On Monday, February 10 and Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, you can experience an exciting tour at Holstebro Museum with Head of Cultural Heritage Mette Klingenberg, who will share insights about the Vikings' winter activities.

It was a time when hard work was required to ensure survival.

Food supplies needed to be stored, clothes repaired, and craftsmanship thrived in the warm longhouses. But winter was also a time for togetherness and celebrations. Midwinter festivities brought community, music, storytelling, and joy that brightened the dark times.

Practical Information
The tour will be conducted in Danish and lasts about 30 minutes. It is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the Vikings' lives during the coldest months of the year. It is free to participate once you have purchased a museum ticket.

You can either book your ticket online or ask upon arrival if there are still available spots for the tour. There are limited spaces, so if you want to be sure of a spot, it is advisable to book online before your visit to the museum.

Join us and learn how the Vikings combined work, survival, and festivities in a time when the forces of nature set the agenda.

Throughout the winter holidays, Viking School is available at Holstebro Museum, where both children and adults can learn even more about the Vikings.
