Egeris Church – A Modern Church Building with Historic Roots Egeris Church in Skive offers both architectural appeal and rich history. Following a major renovation from 2017–2018, it now stands as a bright and inspiring space filled with unique natural light.

Fundraising for the original church began in December 1944 across the “Skive Søndre Parish” (Brårup–Egeris–Bilstrup). Over 15 years, nearly 190,000 DKK was collected—around 45% of the total building cost of 418,000 DKK.

The first church was designed by architect Holger Jensen from Copenhagen and inaugurated on 16 October 1960 with great celebration—though it sparked debate around the role of women in the clergy, as Helga Jensen, one of the first female ministers in Jutland, was appointed to the church.

The modernist building featured yellow bricks inside and out, with the concept of “homeliness” reflected in its design—yellow interior walls, brown stone floors, and pine wood furnishings, creating a large, living-room-like worship space.

As the population grew to nearly 7,000 residents, the church required an extensive renovation. Between 2017 and 2018, it was transformed by Tegnestuen Regnbuen (now part of Rubow Architects). The design preserved the original proportions but introduced cleaner lines and significantly more light. The concept was simple yet profound: to welcome light into the space and let it preach alongside the Word—especially on sunny days.

The church is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
