Hjerm Vestre Church is beautifully situated on one of the highest points in the parish, serving as a prominent landmark for centuries. Based on its architectural style, the church is believed to have been built around 1140, likely near the old Hjerm-Ginding district assembly – a historic site for local governance.

In the 16th century, the church was expanded with transepts and a tower, and today it features a distinctive onion-shaped dome that adds character to the building. The pulpit and altarpiece date back to the 17th century and are closely linked to the manor Volstrup, which has played a significant role in the church’s history.

In the southern transept lies the burial site of the noble Munk family, including Mogens Munk – known for delivering the letter of dismissal to King Christian II – and his son Oluf Munk, who was appointed bishop of Ribe shortly before the Reformation.

Another remarkable memorial is the epitaph of Axel Juul and his family. To the left of the chancel hangs a stone tablet bearing King Christian V’s permission for the burial – a rare and historic inscription carved in stone.
