The Two Jutland Horses in Skive
On Skive’s historic horse market square stands a bronze sculpture of two Jutland horses – a tribute to the town’s past as a meeting place for trade and community. The sculpture was unveiled by Princess Benedikte in 1996.
A Gathering Place in the Heart of Skive
With the hope of reviving the square in Skive as a popular gathering place, Princess Benedikte unveiled sculptor Joseph Salomon’s bronze statue of the two Jutland Horses on October 2, 1996. The sculpture stands on the old horse market square between the churches and Møllegården.
For generations, this was the place where town and countryside met – where people traded, shared news and gossip, and where the horse market was a key event in the local community. The sculpture pays tribute to the Jutland horse and the historical significance of the square as a center of life, commerce, and togetherness.
Today, the two bronze horses stand as a symbol of Skive’s cultural heritage and as an invitation for locals and visitors alike to gather, experience, and rediscover the town’s history and sense of community.
