Holstebro museum of art
Modern, non-Western and contemporary art in inspiring dialogue.

During “Art Days by the Limfjord” over the Ascension holiday, Holstebro Art Museum highlights the special exhibition SPHERICAL – Kirsten Klein 80 Years.
The exhibition is created to mark Kirsten Klein’s 80th birthday and, with more than 150 works, is the most comprehensive presentation of her artistic oeuvre to date. Kirsten Klein is regarded as one of Denmark’s most significant living photographic artists. She is best known for her technically masterful black-and-white landscape photography and her sensitive capture of natural phenomena such as the northern lights, “black sun”, tides and moonlight.
Her works are poetic and often melancholic depictions of nature, primarily from the areas around Mors, where she lives and works. However, a recent review of her extensive archive has revealed lesser-known yet highly compelling aspects of her long career.
Her culturally diverse and more anthropologically oriented subjects from numerous travels around the world are primarily portrayals of people. These works offer vivid impressions of everyday life in images from the Yucatán Peninsula, Ireland, Guinea-Bissau, Karpathos and Sápmi. This adds a global aesthetic dimension to her work, extending far beyond the well-known Danish landscapes.
Holstebro Art Museum
At Holstebro Art Museum, modern art from the 1930s onwards meets traditional non-Western art and contemporary works. The interplay of time, culture and expression creates a diverse and inspiring art experience.
