Harrevig- Skive’s hidden gems

Two villages – one fjordside region
– where the past meets the open landscape

Harrevig – coast, history and community

Along the western part of Skive Municipality lies Harre Vig – a scenic and peaceful fjord landscape where the two villages of Hjerk and Harre together form the Harrevig area. Here, close cooperation across parish boundaries creates a strong sense of community – a clustered village area defined by closeness, togetherness and shared stories.

From the villages, it is only a few minutes to the coast, where Harre Vig opens up with shallow waters, wide flats and a child-friendly beach. The fjord invites quiet moments, play by the water’s edge and walks where the horizon feels vast and the pace naturally slows.

The Harrevig area is rich in ancient monuments. Along the shore, you may find traces from the Stone Age, while burial mounds shape the landscape around the fields. On the western coast lie the well-preserved Viking boat sheds at Harrebjerg – rare remains of the structures where Vikings stored their boats during winter.

History continues at Harre Church, where discoveries of wheel tracks and palisades point to a possible sacrificial site and a Viking chieftain’s stronghold. In the area, you can also experience Frue Church, whose ruins stand as a quiet testimony to the region’s long and vibrant history.
