Hem- Skive’s hidden gems

Quiet paths, deep roots and closeness to the city
– in the heart of fertile Østsalling

Hem – the green corner of the Limfjord

Hem is beautifully situated in the fertile area of Østsalling, just a few kilometres from Skive. The landscape around the town is characterised by open fields, small woods and green groves gathered in the low-lying areas, creating a calm, rural atmosphere. Here, the sky feels wide and there is room to breathe.

From Hem, it is easy to head out into the landscape – and towards the city. The former Vestsalling Railway now serves as a path for cyclists and walkers, leading directly towards Skive through the open countryside. It is ideal for a gentle bike ride or a walk where the pace follows the surroundings.

At the heart of Hem stands the town’s old church, Hem Church, surrounded by large lime and beech trees. Here, the deep traces of history are clearly felt. The area around the church holds stories reaching back to the Late Iron Age, where the discovery of a large Viking farm bears witness to a life and significance stretching far back in time.

Nature close to the town also offers small, atmospheric experiences. Explore the coppice woodland or find peace by Storkesøen, where the landscape invites quiet pauses and moments of presence in green surroundings.
