Harre Vig

On the ridges near Harre Vig there are several burial mounds. Graves from the Late Stone Age single grave culture, the Dagger Period, and the Bronze Age have been found in flattened mounds.

“The harbour” at Lysen Bredning

In the 19th century, the spit leading to Hjortholm together with the beach on the northern side at Lysen Bredning formed a natural harbour where larger ships could dock due to the deep water.
Here they could load and unload without paying duties. This greatly irritated the town of Skive, and when the town built its own harbour in 1869, a complaint was sent to the government.
Afterwards the harbour operations at Lysen Bredning were prohibited, even though the small natural harbour was ideally located for West and North Salling.

The sluice at Lysen Odde

The sluice was built in 1899 and prevents salt water from the fjord from entering Hjerk Nor during high tide and damaging the grazing on the large reclaimed meadow areas.

Hjerk Nor

Hjerk Nor offers rich nature experiences. The flora and fauna in the area include many different wild plants, including beautiful orchid species.
The area is also a good place for collecting herbs for traditional schnapps, as many wild herbs grow here.
Around Hjerk Nor, kitchen middens from the Stone Age have been found. These middens are associated with settlements from the Ertebølle culture of the Late Stone Age and consist of shells, bones and other remains.
Kitchen middens can be found in several places along the former coastline of the Stone Age sea.

Hjortholm

Hjortholm is a partially flooded peninsula.
At normal or low water levels it is possible to walk out onto the peninsula.
Like several other places around Hjerk Nor, Hjortholm was once a settlement area for hunter-gatherers from the Ertebølle culture of the Late Stone Age.
If you are lucky, you may find flakes and other worked flint tools.

Harre Vig
On the ridges at Harre Vig several burial mounds are located. In decommissioned mounds, graves from the Neolithic single-grave culture and dagger age as well as from the Bronze Age have been discovered.

The "port" at Lysen Bredning
In the 19th century, the beach and strait to Hjortholm on the north side at Lysen Bredning formed a natural harbor. Here it was possible for larger ships to dock due to the great water depth.

Ships could load and unload without paying taxes. This was of great annoyance for the town of Skive, and when the town constructed and built a harbor in 1869, a complaint was sent to the government.

The operations of the harbor at Lysen Bredning were then banned despite the small natural harbor was ideally located for Vest- and Nordsalling.

The lock at Lysen Odde
The lock was built in 1899 and controlled the salty water from the fjord from entering Hjerk Nor at high tide and thereby damaging the grazing on the large and bounded meadow areas.

Hjerk Nor
Hjerk Nor is rich at nature experiences. The flora and fauna in the area is full of many wild plants, including beautiful species of orchids herb.

The area has a great baseline for a snap herb tour, as it is possible to find many natural herbs and species. Also, several kitchen-middens have been found around Hjerk Nor.

Kitchen-middens arose related to the settlements of the pea bull culture in the Stone Age and comprised of clam shells, bones, etc.

You can find kitchen-middens in several locations along the coastline of the Stone Age.

Hjortholm
Hjortholm is a partially flooded peninsula. At normal/low water levels, you can hike on the peninsula. Hjortholm has been, like several other places at Hjerk Nor a settlement for the hunters in the older Stone Age pea bull culture. You may be lucky to find flint flakes and other processed tools here.
